AUTOHAUs … Shoot the moon
Shoot the Moon is an homage to friend of AUTOHAUs, Kevin “Philly Kev” Morpurgo, who passed away in 2023. An early supporter of the band, it was Kev who coined the phrase that came to define their sound: “motorik psych with extra Kraut.” He understood what AUTOHAUs were about from the very beginning.
In 2024, the band were honoured to be invited to perform at his memorial weekender at Bar Nothing - Kev’s beloved venue - overlooking the sea on the cliffs of Cliftonville in Margate. This was less like a conventional show and more like a gathering: a chance to celebrate Kev’s life, his music, and the community he built around him. To mark the occasion, AUTOHAUs invited friends of both the band and Kev - Dan Lyons (Fat White Family, Brian Jonestown Massacre) and Jonny Halifax (The Jonny Halifax Invocation) - to contribute vocals to what became an improvised, motorik-led soundtrack for the day. Their performances brought an added sense of spontaneity and connection to the set.
Kev’s own musical legacy ran deep. A founder member of Philadelphia grunge band Dandelion, he later moved to London, where he was involved with The Hells and, more recently, the uncompromising noise rock project Dethscalator. Alongside this, he was a tireless promoter and venue owner, creating spaces for others to play and be heard.
As part of this tribute, the band recorded a cover of Dethscalator’s “You Know Nothing About Cars or Martial Arts”, with Jonny Halifax on vocals, shared with the band’s blessing. Dan Lyons contributed an improvised spoken piece over an extended introduction to Golgotha.
This recording captures that performance - a moment shaped by friendship, memory, and music.
